These poached pears are simple and light, yet they are warming and very sweet. My husband asked for more and said that they would make the house smell wonderful on Christmas Eve. They taste great alone, or with vanilla ice cream, or topped with cranberries, chocolate chips and toasted nuts.
1 cup water
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. ginger
1 cinnamon stick
4 pears, cut in half, cores removed (scoop out with a spoon)
On medium heat in a large, wide pot, bring all of the ingredients to a simmer and cook 20 minutes.
